Northern Youth Services
Funded by the State Government Department for Families and Communities, Northern Youth Services (NYS) is a specialized youth service for young people aged between 10 and 25 years who reside in the Playford, Salisbury and Gawler District areas. NYS provides:

  1. Counselling
  2. Group work
  3. Case management
  4. Training

The service is free and can be accessed via referral from the young person, their family or external agency. A referral form must be completed by a referring agency and an initial assessment occurs to determine when a client can be seen. Referral Form


Police Drug Diversion Initiative. (PDDI)
The PDDI is a federally funded initiative that provides the opportunity for individuals to be diverted to counselling when apprehended by police with illicit drugs or drug paraphernalia for personal use. The project aims to provide a range of supports and educational opportunities for young people with the goal of ceasing or ameliorating their illicit drug use. NACYS referral to PDDI is via the PDDI line only.

Court Assessment Referral Drug Scheme (CARDS.)

CARDS stand for Court Assessment and Referral Drug Scheme. The scheme operates in the Magistrates Court and the Youth Court in South Australia and is designed to provide an opportunity for defendants who use drugs to receive access to drug treatment as part of the court process. CARDS receive funding from the State and Commonwealth governments under a national Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative, which aims for harm minimisation.  Referral is via the court system only.

CHANGE Program
CHANGE stands for Changing Habits Attitudes & Gaining Education. The program is funded by the Federal Department for Health & Ageing via the Non Government Organisation Treatment Grants Scheme. The Program is aimed cessation and reduction of cannabis use in young people aged between 13 and 18 years residing in the Gawler, Playford and Salisbury district areas. Individuals may be current cannabis users or ‘at risk’ of using cannabis. Referral can be made by the young person directly, external agencies or concerned families.

 

Youth Services offers full case management to individuals aged between 10 and 25 years residing in the Playford, Salisbury and Gawler district areas.
Case management is provided via Northern Youth Services, The Police Drug Diversion Initiative and the CHANGE Program (See Crisis Intervention heading for details.)
Case management involves support across all life domains and may assist with such areas as:

  1. Accommodation
  2. Mental Health
  3. Education
  4. Family conflict

Referral can be made by external agencies, the young person themselves or their family.
There is no cost involved and individuals can remain a client of NACYS for as long as required.

MENTORING

NACYS Youth Services provides mentoring to address the literacy and numeracy support needs of young people. The young person is matched to an adult mentor who spends regular time providing literacy and numeracy support. Young people aged between 10 and 25 years who reside in the Playford, Gawler or Salisbury area can inquire. Mentoring is provided onsite at NACYS head office. The service is free and has no length of stay restricitions.

 

 

 

Youth Services offers group work for young people via Northern Youth Services.
Group work is free and available to any agencies, schools and other bodies working with young people aged between 10 and 25 years residing in Playford, Salisbury or Gawler district areas.
Group work can address a chosen area by the referrer and can be tailored to meet the needs of the individuals within the group.
Groups can be run at NACYS head office or externally.
Some examples of previous groups have been:

  • Self esteem
  • Sexual health
  • Anger management

Drug & Alcohol Training
Youth Services via the Police Drug Diversion Initiative offers a range of professional development and training opportunities for agencies and individuals wanting to gain knowledge regarding alcohol and other drugs. There are free and fee for service opportunities. Inquires are welcome.

Youth Issues Training

Youth Services offers opportunities in professional development for individuals and agencies looking to gain insight into youth related practice and issues. Topics that can be addressed include:

  • Youth Suicide risk assessment
  • Youth mental health
  • Developing  young peoples self esteem and self confidence.

Training is by negotiation and has free and fee for service possibilities. Inquiries welcome.
